LANDSTRUCTION WIN SILVER GILT MEDAL AT NEW HOME GARDEN AWARDS 2011

Our client was launching a new style of housing, which features architectural detail taken from the Arts and Crafts Movement – the landscaping around the show home was to reinforce this theme, but with a modern twist.

A clipped hedge in the front garden creates two ‘entrance beds’ which you walk between - containing fragrant planting (lavender, Russian sage, rosemary and bergamot). From here curved lines take your eye around the garden. Flowing lines have been used throughout the scheme to create a tranquil, relaxing feel to the space. The colours used within the garden echo this, with the use of soft, pastel shades creating a sense a calm.

A stand out feature in this scheme is the pergola in the centre of the rear lawn. The pergola is framed by a box hedge, then has a ring of lavender planted around it and is covered in honeysuckle and clematis – provides an intimate family space for enjoying al fresco dining. A big emphasis has also been placed on encouraging families to grow their own fruit and vegetables, so the garden features raised planters and a mini orchard.
